PAXTON DENE
BRIGHTLINGSEA
Following the recent inspection of Paxton Dene, a qualitative assessment was completed under the Crown Scheme and the Harmonised Scheme. It is confirmed that the COMMENDED grade has been retained and the operation also showed potential for achieving a rating of 4 DIAMONDS under the Guest Accommodation Scheme. Detailed below are some notes relative to the overall quality assessment, as discussed at the time of the visit.
EXTERIOR:
The very good appearance of the house helps to create a good initial impression and plans to add dedicated lighting for the sign should help to further aid arrival. The gardens are very well planted and maintained providing a good outlook in the morning from the conservatory.
RECEPTION:
A good telephone booking overall with clear directions provided. The arrival was very good with high standards of guests' care evident. The departure was very well handled with the receipt prepared in advance, minimising delays on leaving.
BEDROOMS:
All rooms are very well maintained with any maintenance or refreshing of decor done as soon as required which helps to ensure a consistency of high quality. The furniture is good overall with the pine furniture of very good quality and the rooms are of a comfortable size allowing good freedom of movement. Beds are all very well made and presented. Thermostatic controls on the radiators help to ensure guests' comfort and a very good range of accessories are provided including hair dryers, very well positioned tea trays, dried flowers, radio alarm clocks and a very good selection of coat hangers. Most importantly, excellent standards of cleanliness are evident in all areas.
BATHROOMS:
Guests benefit from en suite bathrooms in all bedrooms and, although not substantial in size, they all contain well maintained decor and good fixtures and fittings.
PUBLIC AREAS/BREAKFAST ROOM:
All areas are very well decorated with the entrance hall containing a lot of relief and interest and enhancing initial impression on arrival.
Breakfast* is served in the conservatory at the rear of the B&B and a very neat display of cereals and very good table appointments enhances. Breakfast was very well cooked and service throughout was efficient and friendly without being obtrusive.
GENERAL OBSERVATIONS:
Paxton Dene is a very well managed B&B which provides a consistency of good to very good quality throughout and which fully merits the continued award of the Board's COMMENDED GRADE and a rating of 4 DIAMONDS in the Harmonised scheme.
